Remodel & Restoration
Due to varied uses and outdated design from this home’s history, we faced conflicting styles throughout a heavily textured, dark interior as well as a grumpy, mundane exterior that did nothing to highlight this home’s grandeur or to match the stunning lot and surroundings. We took six months and a day and converted it to a fresh, light, transitional style. Every single finish was replaced and transformed inside and out, aside from three showers. Some spaces were completely reworked to produce more comfort and function. The new colors and materials on the exterior bring out the elegance of this home and compliment its gorgeous mountain backdrop. The interior transformation is equally breathtaking. Molding and woodworking details, brilliant use of windows and perfect choices for cabinetry, counters, and flooring like you see here are our expertise. This is now a lovely, bright home and property that reflects the personality and style of its owners.
This project has been a transformation in phases; every few years we have undertaken improvements in a different portion of the home. First we freed the master bedroom and bathroom from a 90’s era of mauve and shiny brass and brought in a spa-like version of an industrial contemporary mood. I call this vanity the Jenga, with emphasis on the walnut wood grain made in a variation of depth and widths. The end result being a space reflecting the owners style while elevating functionality and beauty of materials. In the next phase, the kitchen and main level were previously broken up into separated and seldom used rooms, an isolated dining room a two person kitchen and no pantry. This is now a conveniently combined space, encouraging daily use of the dining room, sitting room and new study areas. There are now multiple layers zoned for food storage and preparation, family meals, homework, projects, pet care and cleaning supplies. In keeping with the family’s daily rhythms, we opened up the dining and sitting rooms and created an inviting space that is now used more frequently and brings the family together, while adding convenience and efficiency to their daily tasks. Organization and storage is hidden in every corner of these rooms. We coordinated natural finishes, emphasized window light, and used a simple color palette resulting in a beautiful change for our clients. Stay tuned for the lower level remodel coming soon...
Our clients decided to prioritize function and family life by taking on a full remodel of their home inside and out. The original home featured a very typical exterior with a small two car garage, no extra storage, and a very broken up and unimaginative interior space. One of the top inconveniences and downsides of most American floor plans is the reality of walking into our homes everyday from the garage through a narrow, crowded hallway cluttered with what we call the to do list. We modified this space which changed the experience of coming home. When you are faced immediately with the laundry room and/or mudroom that is piled with chores and a back log of unfinished tasks, coming home creates discouragement and stress rather than comfort and joy. We moved the laundry to a more usable and appropriate location—upstairs where all of the clothing and bedding is stored. Removing walls and replacing walled closets with cabinetry opened the floor plan significantly. We also increased the garage and entry space, connected the kitchen to the dining room, and greatly improved the indoor-outdoor transitions with French doors to the outside. The exterior was changed from brick and stucco to a transitional farmhouse. The windows were lengthened, the porch extended and an improved focus on the entry roofline now balances the new house quite well.

This remodel presented some structural obstacles. The home was designed by a famous architect in the progressive glass and steel mid century era so we were careful to maintain its historic value and character. We decided to put an emphasis on woodgrain true to a contemporary interpretation of mid century style and we added a routed line in the door panels to reflect the edges of the steel columns throughout the home. Every convenience and functionality was included and the owners are thrilled with their new space.
This was an extensive remodel that focused on finishwork, color and improving the use of each area in the home. All interior doors were heightened and replaced with a signature door pattern to add style and scale. We also added a substantial custom crown molding that creates a great pattern onto the ceilings and around every corner. The clients wanted a more comfortable and livable main living room. The fireplace used to be a traffic pattern into the office, we rerouted this to be from the hallway, and now have an anchor of a new fireplace and accent wall that clearly defines the uninterrupted seating area. All put together gorgeous custom furnishings with the new colors of the house. We increased the functional use of the lower level with a custom entertaining kitchen, a second full laundry room as well as a family theater room. The multiple zones in the home now offer different experiences while being united by the owners’ personality and style.
